Brazil Leads Bangtan Boys Hashtag Competition on Twitter

Which country has the most intense K-POP craze?

ANG SAN MEI. SEOUL. Brazil takes the crown as the country that loves the ‘Korean Wave Idol’ Bangtan Boys (BTS) the most, according to latest competition results from Twitter.

Twitter announced the update in the midst of the BTS hashtag country competition event that started on 13th May. The current leader is Brazil, followed by Thailand, Turkey, Korea and Philippines.

The competition initiated by Twitter, includes a custom-made emoji for BTS, who are actively engaging with their fans all over the globe on Twitter. It is the first time that Twitter has designed a special emoji for K-POP musicians. The BTS emoji is provided to all Tweets using the official hashtags ‘#LoveBTS’ and ‘#Bangtan Boys’ until 9AM KST, 11th June.

Twitter and BTS will send a special video clip with BTS’s thank-you message to the top five countries which used the emoji most frequently during the 30-day campaign period.

Since the campaign began two weeks ago, there has been approximately 16 million Tweets generated with the hashtags globally. The top five countries are Brazil, Thailand, Turkey, Korea, and the Philippines in the mentioned order.

twitter 2BTS is very popular in the Latin American region. The keywords related to K-POP are on the Twitter Brazil’s real-time trends every week. This week, the BTS hashtag event received special attention, and Twitter Brazil created a special Twitter Moment for the event. Twitter Moments is a feature that showcases headline events and related Tweet content in a single view, curated by Twitter’s global editorial team.

To level up the competition, BTS wants to get an even more accurate “love” count from fans and has changed the official contest hashtag from ‘#BTS’ to ‘#LoveBTS’ as of 9AM, 27th May KST. Now #LoveBTS will be counted, while the Korean hashtag, #방탄소년단 (Bangtan Boys) will remain the same. Here’s their official Tweet for the announcement.
